![]() FAQ When's the Last Time Your Legs Felt & Looked Great? You may have a Vascular problem... Q. What are Varicose Veins? A. Varicose veins are superficial veins which have become dilated (filled with blood) and no longer function properly. They have a larger "rope-like" appearance and are close to the surface of the legs. Varicose veins are a sign that the circulation returning the blood to the heart may not be flowing properly. While there is no way to reverse these symptoms and turn a varicose vein back into a healthy vein, there is a treatment to redirect the blood flow - Sclerotherapy. Q. What are Spider Veins? A. Spider veins are the smaller, less obtrusive veins. Known as telangiectasias or sunburst varicosities. These "web-like" or bursts of veins lie close to the surface of the skin and are not an essential part of the venous system. Q. Aren't varicose and spider veins just a cosmetic problem? A. NO! Varicose veins can lead to other more critical illnesses such as Phlebitis (irritation of veins), Thrombosis (blood-clots within the veins) and skin ulcers if they go untreated. Smaller spider veins can become more severe and will progress so early treatment makes sense. Q. What is Sclerotherapy? A. For over 20 years, doctors have used Sclerotherapy techniques to eliminate varicose veins. By injecting a saline solution containing small amounts of a drug just under the skin, into the vein, the walls of the varicose vein are collapsed and the vein is absorbed by the body. By eliminating the vein, circulation of the blood actually improves because the body will then "re-route" blood flow through healthy veins. Q. How long is recovery? A. The Average Sclerotherapy session takes about 30 minutes. For those patients who need surgery, it is done on an outpatient basis and the patients are comfortably walking shortly after of completion of the half hour process. Most of our patients receiving surgical treatment have no recurrence of varicose veins. Serious side affects are rare. Some general results may be temporary tenderness and/or bruising which will fade within a few weeks. Q. Are the procedures affordable? A. YES! We offer a FREE Diagnostic Consultation to assess your initial needs and concerns and give you a complete diagnosis of your vein health.
