Lymphedema

What is Lymphedema?
Lymphedema is an accumulation of protein rich fluid in your arm or leg following lymph node removal, radiation therapy, or trauma.
What am I looking for as a sign of Lymphedema?
Initially, lymphedema begins very slowly with a small amount of swelling in the extremity. Typically, there is slight skin tenderness at the swollen area.
If you have been suffering from lymphedema for any length of time there is a possibility you have experienced skin changes. These changes may include; skin that feels stretched, appears shiny, or has a thick feeling.
It is important that at the first sign of lymphedema you seek the help of licensed medical professionals who have obtained a full Certification in Lymphedema Management from an accredited school.
